Can You See What I See?

Most of the time when I sit down to write about taking photos I hope that the words just come. That I don't have to write an outline or plan much and instead the words find my hands. I'm going to do my best to be a little better about this. I don't want to take away from the impulsive creative happenstance joy of taking photos or sharing my creative pursuits, but I wouldn't mind a little more of my day job full of data and metrics carrying over into my photography.
The idea that I could plan for and create a specific shot rather than just hoping I'll stumble across something interesting on the random day I decided to head out with my camera.
I've always kept my hobbies at arm's length because I so much enjoyed being a jack of all trades, but the last 5 years have shown me that I cannot deny the pull of my second creative love (second only to drawing, the most accessible creative outlet for poorer families), photography. When I was a kid I had a 110 film point and shoot. I eventually got a hand me down Polaroid too. In junior high I got the most wonderful and impactful gift, a 1970's Pentax K1000. Between that first Kodak 110 and my current Nikon D5600 DSLR I've owned so many cameras, but always refused to get even sort of technical and insisted on trying to kinesthetically figure things out. I did, to my credit, learn quite a bit figuring it out as I went along. Now though, I'm tired of fumbling along and maybe getting the shot. I am ready to study and learn and improve those odds of getting it.
